Things To Do Memorial Day Weekend in Memphis

Memorial day is May 29th. Here’s your quick guide to the Memorial Day weekend in Memphis. There’s plenty to do in the 901 during this unofficial beginning to summer! Just make sure to take a moment to remember those who have died for our freedoms.

Memphis Redbirds Baseball

Is there anything more American than baseball? Take in some games over the course of Memorial Day weekend. Each game will be held at AutoZone Park with Saturday’s and Sunday’s game concluding with a fireworks show.

​Schedule:

Saturday, May 27 vs. Iowa Cubs at 6:35 p.m. (post-game fireworks and $2 beer specials
Sunday, May 28 vs. Iowa Cubs at 6:35 p.m. (post-game fireworks; free ice cream for the first 2,500 kids)
Monday, May 29 vs. Iowa Cubs at 12:05 p.m.

Memphis In May 901Fest

Celebrate all things Memphis with plenty of live music, local vendors, delicious food and drinks, plus an air show and fireworks.

Air Show – Set up a blanket and prepared to be wowed with an air show over the Mississippi River beginning at 6:00 pm.

Fireworks – Stick around for the close of 901Fest for a spectacular Memphis-themed fireworks show.

Knockerball – Free for all ages and available from 4-8 pm. In addition, Zorb ball will be available for children.

Memphis-themed mural – A 45’ bus will be parked in Tom Lee Park and we’re letting you help us paint a Memphis-themed mural on it!

Art to Grow – Dixon Gallery & Gardens will have their Art to Grow van onsite with hands-on art activities for children from 3-6 pm.

Water on Wheels from the UofM – Walk inside the WOW and learn more about our watery world that looks like a blue marble from space. The exhibits are colorful and interactive, designed to enlighten and motivate visitors AND learn more about the important Memphis Aquifer. Cornhole – Grab a beer and some friends to toss the bags around next to the river.

Summer Symphony at the Live Garden

The Memphis Botanic Garden hosts the annual Summer Symphony in the gardens featuring the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. The 2017 Summer Symphony is Saturday, May 27. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. (The rain date is Sunday, May 28.)

Tickets are $1500 for an eight-top VIP table, $187.50 for a pair of VIP tickets, or $75 per person for access to the VIP lawn and lounge. Or, you can sit on the lawn for $20 for adults or $10 for kids 12 and under. Ticket prices go up $5 on the day of the event.

Sprock n’ Roll

Sprock n’ Roll  will be offering private rides to veterans for $300, which is a $95 discount.  You can choose the Midtown or Downtown.  route. Advanced reservations are required and you must call 901-500-7101 or visit their website to book.  Use coupon code: STRIPES and a military ID will be required when checking in at the bike.

Memorial Day Tour at Elmwood

The grounds of Elmwood are open every day of the year, including Memorial Day when they will be open from 8 am until 4:30 pm. Visitors are welcome to stop by the Cottage for lemonade and cookies until late afternoon. They will also pass out small American flags for placement at the grave sites of your choosing. At 10:30am, they are offering a special tour of Elmwood Cemetery. It lasts 90 minutes and costs $15. This family-friendly tour will take visitors to Confederates Rest, No Man’s Land, and to many beautiful monuments.
